Horrible service, Horrible vendors and pathetic response

Never ever book this company if you love your peace. They have paid reviews on HireAHelper forum and are there for extorting money.

Writing this note to recount for traumatic experience for our move scheduled on 08/12. The workers were in no mood to work, didn't bring tool-boxes, passed snarky comments like "We are not going to assemble your bed since you are removing the bolts".

The biggest issue of bed disassembling and assembling took me 10 mins(my first time with a wrench) while they created a big fuss out of it without doing any actual work.

We booked HireAHelper for our convenience and it turned out to be the biggest stress in our transfer process.

Let me recount the experience in chronological order:

1. Crew arrival at 1:35 pm

2. On seeing the bed at 1:37pm, they straight away declared that they can't transfer the bed( Mood spoiler 1).

3. By 1:40pm, we requested to give it a try and they told us that they are not carrying the tool-box. Later they told that the basic tool-box is in the car.

4. By 1:50 pm, we went to society maintenance and provided them the wrench to disassemble the bed.

5. By 1:55 pm, he has managed to unscrew 1 bolt and told that he cant do others(Mood spoiler 2).

6. By 2:00 pm, I unscrewed 4 bolts while he is talking to his boss Sam. Please take note that not a single item has been moved from the elevator so far.

7. By 2:05 pm, a back and forth call with his manager Sam has started and they are waiting for the call to be finished rather than doing any actual work(Mood spoiler 3).

8. By 2:10 pm. we are frustrated by the negativity, lack of intent to do any actual work and snarky comments and told them to stop the service.

We did all the transfer by ourselves for the next few hours, broke our backs and on top of it your team informs that there is a cancellation charge.

Writing this note as the sequence of events and why this is the most disappointing service that I ever took. I dont know how big your company is or where the problem is in the system(Corporate/ Vendor/ Communication) but the end service that I got was beyond pathetic.

Long-distance move from High View, WV to Clover, SC

This company is a scam

When you schedule the helpers, they want the customer to give an estimated time of how long the helpers will take loading your items. Then if customer predicted it will take 6-8 hours and the helpers are done in 4-5 you get nothing back, no refunds, no wiggle room, you pay your original time. This is a scam and the worst customer service experience you will ever find. They are extorting people for money. Please stop using them so they go out of business!

Bad compensation for their mistakes

I originally found good movers for a great price. But then when one of them got hurt, instead of getting me another company to replace them with no gimmicks, they made me pay the extra money the new company cost. They also only sent me the workers at 6 PM instead of 9 AM when i hired them, thereby losing me the whole day to unpack and get settled. I also had to hire this expensive company for 2 hours, even though I only needed one, because "that's how it's done here" whoop-de-doo so make an exception instead of messing me over worse than you already did!

Hire A Helper is the way to move

This is the 2nd time I have used this service and in New York I got 2 wonderful helpers who loaded a 24ft truck. we made it to Florida and on a Sunday I had 2 wonderful workers, I then moved a year later after I purchased a home and moved 2 blocks away and I had 2 amazing gentleman load and unload 2 times. I would recommend this over any moving company.

Hire The Company Directly

HireAHelper makes the moving company pass on a second service charge onto you that is close to $200. There is also a SECOND service charge of $40 on top of that at the end of the move. The only thing they do is provide you with a list of movers which is something you can on Google for free! If I had just hired the company directly I could have saved myself close to $240.

Long-distance move from Newport News, VA to Summerfield, FL

Brutal

This experience was brutal. My wife hurt her back and hasn't been able to do much and loading the truck solo sounded miserable. $207 with Moving that Worx local to Newport News, VA for 2 guys / 2 hours. They did a great job of keeping in contact through the week. Tom calls to inform they could arrive by 12:45. They show up, of course it's storming. We agreed that was not the best idea, or safe to do the loading in the rain so I gave them the walkthrough of what was needed. We look at 2 weather apps and looks like weather would clear by 1:30, they'd go to lunch and come back. 1:44 comes around, sky is clear, I get a voicemail saying "the movers googled the weather and it is going to storm again so we have to cancel the reservation." After being great with his phone all week, Tom is all of a sudden a ghost. I call Hire a Helper back, and they confirm. Tom if you're reading this, that was the biggest cop out of work on a Friday I've ever experience and thank you for having me load that entire house on my own until midnight. It didn't storm again until 6. My advice to anyone else reading this... Use Tom at Moving that Works if you'd like a last minute cancellation.

Long-distance move from Charlotte, NC to Stamford, CT

Movers don't show up on time

Even with the platform having a policy of movers having a one hour window to show up, neither of my movers were able to make that window. The first company showed up with one guy right at the time limit and the second guy showing up 23 minutes later. The other company did not show up until 1.5 hours after the one hour grace period! They only did an hour of work because I had already unloaded half the truck by myself. I paid for 3 hours, they only worked for one hour. I had to pay for two because the platform only allows the client to add or subtract one hour from the initial order.

Loading and Unloading

I used Hire A Helper to help with the loading and unloading of my trailer. The loaders were amazing. Everything was carefully loaded not one item was scratched, broken, or damaged. Unloading was done by another company. Extremely careful. Everything that needed to be assembled was. Boxes were put in their designated areas. I am beyond thrilled with this service.

Hire a Helper Charges an extra $75 per transaction.

Hire a Helper recently started charging and extra $75, as opposed to the $50 it use to add to the end of the bill for its portion from the customer. ALL A CUSTOMER HAS TO DO IS LOOK AT HOW MUCH THE COMPANY CHARGES PER HOUR, THE REST OF THE CHARGE IS HIRE A HELPERS ADD ON FEES.   Example: company A charges $50 per hour, the total charge for the 2 hours, if the company is booked outside of hire a helper, is $100. But if booked through Hire a Helper the same company is then booked with a $175 charge; the extra $75 goes to hire a helper for their "connection". SIMPLY GOOGLED THE COMPANY NAME AS LISTED ON HIRE A HELPER, FIND THEM ON CL AND CONTACTED THEM DIRECTLY. Save $75. Although on their own terms and agreements it says they add $50, they recently started adding $75.

It was great to work with the team. They knew how to pack things correctly and showed great teamwork with each other.. They moved things efficiently and carefully. I was really impressed. They were able to complete packing POD and were very experienced. I felt confident since It was 22 years since we moved into this house. I will use them again for certain. Extremely helpful.
