Charter Van Lines Inc.

I hired Charter to move me to PA. I spoke to Alex B. I was told 1 price and then because he didnt do his job, the movers wanted to charge me Another $900 to complete the job. Alex did not give me enough space for my belongings. I gave him a written list of all the property to move and apparently he did not read it. Today I had to rent a uhaul to move my stuff. I called Charter and the manager hung up on me. She was very rude. Yes, I was upset and said a choice word. All I want was the payment for the uhaul returned to me. Now because of this I do not have enough funds to pay anything else needed. I have gone for 2 mos with limited food because I was Saving for this move. I am worse off now than before. I called Mr. GRAY the VP of customers to speak with him about the matter. I am waiting for his call.

I live on a limited income and cannot do this. I am disabled and a Vetetan.

Alex talked me out of the company I was going to use. This man owes me an explanation and apology. The company owes me money and refuses to pay.

Deposit of 669.68 pd via cc. Remaining balance of 912.33 given to drivers at pickup. Bal due at drop off 912.00. Cost of uhaul rental (11/29/2023) 219.87, helper fee 50.00.

Now they say if I put my stuff in storage for 30 days, it will cost me another 300.00 for dlvry. Alex said it would not cost me anything. Im in a huge delima. I need help.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2474

I had a need for two separate moves from Florida to Utah and Florida to Texas. When I paid the deposit and agreed to have Charter Van Lines move my household belongings, Bobby assured me that I was contacting “one of the top three moving companies in the country” and that I could count on the service and quality of the company. Bobby said that I would have direct access to him to help throughout the entire process. Even though I tried serval times due to all the problems and inconsistencies, I never heard from him again.

Now after the pick up and delivery to both destinations, I can say that Bobby’s assurances could not be further from the truth. When Bobby sold me on Charter Van Lines service and that I’d be working with Charter Van Lines directly. In reality, Charter hired Moving Wise who then hired a different entity to pick-up and a third entity to move the contents (going in and out of multiple trucks and remaining between Orlando and Miami for over a week) and fourth company for delivery. Now two, three, four steps away from Charter Van Lines everybody points the finger at someone else and nobody is responsible. Bobby told that the same truck that picked up would deliver. Not so - what a joke!

The Texas move included a dining room table (solid wood worth over 3k). To my surprise and in spite of the fact that the total move was under the minimum square foot, the pick-up driver took the table apart. I was assured that the table would be reassembled at delivery. Well….at delivery not only was the table broken (see attached photo) but also the hardware was lost. The delivery driver did nothing to rectify the situation leaving without providing any help whatsoever. In addition, a hand-made stool (made with glued dowel joints) was “disassembled” meaning torn apart and completely destroyed (see attached photo).

The driver for the Utah move assured us several times both verbally and as documented on the paperwork signed at pick-up that as long as a 26ft truck (the same size as the truck that picked up the load) could do the delivery that there would be no additional “shuttle charge”. Then five days later Moving Wise called to tell me that the credit card payment they accepted at pick-up would not work and they needed payment by Venmo or my contents would not leave Florida. In hindsight, I’m sure this is because they knew the service would be terrible and they did not want us to have recourse with the credit card company. Based on the ultimatum, we sent the Venmo. Then we were told that there would be a separate $1,000 shuttle fee and another ultimatum. After contacting Charter Van Lines customer service twice and getting no help - only finger-pointing, so again we felt forced to agree. 

This has been a terrible experience and the opposite of what I was promised. I strongly suggest you do not hire Charter Van Lines or Moving Wise for your move.

We have relocated 3 times in the last 4 years for my husband’s company and I can’t say enough good things about these guys! Hands down the best team we’ve had the pleasure of working with. They were all very professional and focused on getting the work done making sure everything was packed properly and to our liking. They called us to find out if they could pack, load, and move it within one day which we were so happy about. We met them at our new home the very next day and they were done in no time. Everything arrived with no damage at all. I felt like we made some very good friends and I told them I would specifically request them for our next move.

My encounter with Charter Van Lines was fantastic! The office staff was incredibly kind and understanding to me. They undoubtedly made me feel at ease with the scheduling and details because everything happened according to plan. The three movers were cordial. They listened to how I wanted the truck loaded and it turned out perfectly because they were courteous, professional, strong, and capable yet gentle and kind, thorough, and efficient. I was ecstatic beyond belief!
